Accounts and GM access
Your first account
The setup wizard creates your account in its Realm step: a Login, a Password and Rights, either player or Administrator (GM 3). Administrator is preselected. The login may have Latin letters and digits only, up to 16 characters; the password up to 16 characters, without spaces.
Running the wizard again later does not touch your accounts. Its account fields may stay empty; a login you enter there is added if it does not exist yet, and an account that exists keeps its password and rights.
In the Game step, Fill the login into the login screen writes the login into the client's
WTF\Config.wtf (SET accountName), so you only type the password when the game starts.
Logins and passwords are not case-sensitive: the server stores them in capitals, as the 3.3.5a client expects.
The Accounts tab
The Accounts tab on the main page lists the game accounts while the world is running (otherwise it says "Start the server to see the accounts."):
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| Login | the account name |
| Level | "player" or "GM 1" to "GM 3" |
| Characters | how many characters the account has |
| Last login | "today, 19:12", a date, or "—" |
The random bots' accounts are folded into a single row, "RNDBOT… (N)", with level "bots": the number is how many bot accounts there are, and Characters counts all their characters. Refresh reads the list again.
Create an account
- Start the server and wait until it says Running.
- Open the Accounts tab.
- Under New account, fill in Login and Password, and pick a Level: player, GM 1, GM 2 or GM 3.
- Press Create.
The launcher checks the fields first, with the same rules as the wizard: "Login: 1 to 16 Latin letters and digits." and "Password: 1 to 16 characters, no spaces."
Then it sends account create to the server (the password is shown as ******** in the Console tab) and waits
for the answer:
- The account was created: for a GM level the launcher then sends
account set gmlevel <login> <level> -1, where-1means every realm. The Overview tab notes "Account … created" (or "Account … created, GM 3"), and the list refreshes. - The server refused, for example because the login exists already: "Account … not created:" followed by the server's reason. The login stays in the field so you can change it.
- The account was created but the GM level could not be set: "Account … created, but GM … not set:" and the reason.
Change a password, GM level or ban
The Commands tab has an Accounts group with ready-made cards:
| Card | Command it sends |
|---|---|
| Create account | account create <login> <password> |
| Access level | account set gmlevel <login> <level> -1 (0 — player, 3 — administrator) |
| Change password | account set password <login> <password> <password> |
| Ban | ban account <login> <duration> <reason>; duration like 1d, 2h, or -1 for forever |
| Unban | unban account <login> |
Fill in the fields, check the command shown on the card, and press Run. Ban asks for a second click
("Sure?"). The server's answer appears in the Console tab. There is no delete button: to remove an account,
type account delete <login> in the Console.
GM levels
AzerothCore knows four security levels. Each level includes everything the levels below it can do.
| Level | Launcher shows | Role |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | player | a normal player |
| 1 | GM 1 | moderator |
| 2 | GM 2 | game master |
| 3 | GM 3 | administrator |
On a single-player server the difference that matters is the game master commands you can type in the game's chat, starting with a dot. A few examples:
| In-game command | What it does |
|---|---|
.gm on / .gm off |
GM mode: the GM tag, a friendly faction so creatures leave you alone, and you see every phase |
.gm fly on |
fly anywhere |
.gm visible off |
become invisible to others |
.tele <place> |
teleport, for example .tele Dalaran |
.commands |
list the commands your level may use |
.help <command> |
how to use a command |
A GM account (level 1 and above) also skips some checks, for example the death knight requirement when creating a character, and it cannot earn realm-first achievements. If you want to play "for real", create a second account at level player and keep the GM account for fixing things.
You do not need a GM account for the launcher's Console and Commands tabs: commands sent there run with full rights.
Realm name
The realm name is what the game's realm list shows. You pick it in the wizard (the default is "LonelyIce") and can change it later in Settings › Server › Realm, field Realm name. The new name is written when the world next comes up; if the server is running, saving the setting restarts it. The Overview tab then notes "Realm renamed to “…”, visible after a restart".
